This is how we want to be in training, not just our racing, as we look to work together towards our individual and common goals of becoming champion swimmers and people.
Our training squads are a pathway aiming to link the swimmer to national development.
The purpose of each squad is to introduce excelling younger athletes to a peak performance environment allowing development of high-performance tendencies, habits and skills.
However we do also cater to those experienced swimmers who no longer want to swim competitively or commit to as much training.
Senior Squad Coach
Some say that Coach Michael Mills has moved over to the dark side.
Not only is he Papatoetoe Swimming Clubs longest serving member, he is also one of our top swimmers who has decided to pass on his wealth of swimming knowledge and expertise to the future swimmers of Papatoetoe.
Michael is an extraordinary Coach that understands that open communication between swimmer and coach helps to get his swimmers to perform to their best whether it be at training, or racing.
Michael along with the rest of the coaching staff have had amazing highs since taking over in July 2019. Their latest achievement to date has to be Papatoetoe Swimming Club winning the national winning title at the recent NZ Junior Harlequins.
Training times with Michael and the Senior squad are:
Monday to Friday
5:30am - 7am
Monday toThursday
5.30pm-7.30pm (Summer season only in the outdoor pool)
Junior Squad Coach
Our junior swimmers are looked after by Hannah Iosefa.
Hannah is a former NZ Junior swimmer, NZ Open swimmer, and also the winner of Best Female swimmer for Papatoetoe Swimming Club 2017 and 2018.
Hannah is a bright all-round talented sportswoman, unfortunately due to injury and School committments, Hannah has had to take a little break from swimming….kind of….she loves swimming so much that she is passing on all her amazing skills and tricks to our Junior swimmers.
Training with Hannah and the junior squad are:
Monday through to Thursday
6:45pm - 7.45pm
Please note:
Due to Auckland City Council operating hours...Showers are closed at 7.45pm. Coaches do try to finish 5 minutes prior to allow swimmers to shower, however it does not always work out. We suggest if you are desperate to shower after training to remove yourself from the pool prior to 7.45pm. Thanks for your understanding!
